The U & U Show 333 | New Wooden Wand & Arcade Fire

Wooden Wand & the World War IV : I Hate the Nightlife : Wooden Wand & the World War IV (2013)
-          2nd album of 2013.
-          Blood Oaths of the New Blues is still one of the year’s most impressive releases.

Willis Earl Beal : Comin' Through (feat. Cat Power) : Nobody Knows (2013)
-          2nd full length.
-          Debut was lo-fi, unflattering and didn't show off his insanely powerful voice.
-          Big time comparisons to Tom Waits.

Okkervil River : Walking Without Frankie : The Silver Gymnasium (2013)
-          7th album, first not on JagJaguwar. Jumped to ATO Records.
-          Led by Will Sheff
-          The Stage Names, was one of best albums to come out in the time I've been obsessing over music on this show.

Jonathan Rado : Seven Horses : Law & Order (2013)
-          Full length debut.
-          One of the two main members of Foxygen.

Arcade Fire : Reflektor : Reflektor (2013)
-          4th full length
-          Produced by James Murphy and this track sounds like it especially.
-          David Bowie also contributed to the album.
-          This release is going to further propel them into being one of the indie bands with the most mainstream success.

King Krule : Ocean Bed : 6 Feet Beneath the Moon (2013)
-          Full length debut. 1 EP out.
-          Aka Archy Marshal… formerly Zoo Kid
-          18 year old British singer/songwriter.
-          Unique vocals highlight the musically restrained tracks.

Volcano Choir : Tiderays : Repave (2013)
-          debut album was 2009's Unmap.
-          Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver) project with Collections of Colonies of Bees.
-          Bon Iver’s owned the 2008 music world

Deer Tick : Baltimore Blues No. 1 : War Elephant (2007)
-          Debut album.
-          Their 5th album is on its way out soon.
-          ‘Divine Providence’ was their latest and 4th album. Plus 2012's Tim EP
-          The leader of Deer Tick, John McCauley, has been working on the Middle Brother and Diamond Rugs collaborative projects recently and making some brilliant music there.

Gregory Alan Isakov : The Universe : The Weatherman (2013)
-          5th album
-          More traditional-leaning folk singer-songwriter.

Ty Segall : The Keepers : Sleeper (2013)
-          Mellowest album to date.
-          Also readying the debut release from his appropriately named group FUZZ.

Fuzz : What's In My Head : Fuzz (2013)
-          Debut full length.
-          Latest project from the ever-prolific Ty Segall
-          Heavier psych blues sound here than his usual style.

J Roddy Walston & the Business : Black Light : Essential Tremors (2013)
-          6th album
-          2010 s/t album was excellent.
-          Baltimore band
-          Rock and roll feel to some of the tracks
-          Makes me think of Dr. Dog here.

Hunx and His Punx : Dream On (Little Dreamer) : Scion’s Audio Visual Singles Series (2010)
-          4th album, Street Punk was just released.
-          Another bay area garage punk band.
-          Album features a collaboration with Shannon and the Clams’ Shannon.

Tony Molina : Breakin Up : Six Tracks EP (2013)
-          San Fran musician formerly of the Ovens.
-          Debut was out in February 2013.
-          Very reminiscent of Dinosaur Jr.

Dinosaur Jr. : Stick a Toe In : I Bet On Sky (2012)
-          Latest release.
-          In spite of this marketing gimmick, this is still the exact style of Dino Jr that I love most.
-          Very influential indie rock band.
-          Leader J Mascis released one of the best albums of 2011, Several Shades of Why.
-          Eddie Vedder-esque vocals, even though Eddie probably stole the style from J Mascis.
