-          Interesting feel to it… similar to some of the Black Keys more eerie songs

-          great song that fits the holiday… eerie feel
-          more accessible follow up to brilliant, but further out there debut
-          Go French Canada!

-          Debut album. Released 2 since.
-          M. Ward + Bon Iver + Tom Waits’ ‘What’s He Building In There?’
-          Eerily cool spooky tracks.
-          Toronto duo

-          5th album.
-          Former HS science teacher.

Black Keys – When the Lights Go Out – Rubber Factory (2004)
-          3rd album
-          one of the eeriest songs I’ve ever heard
-          latest sounds the most affected by outside/big label influence, but still good



The Kills – Ticket Man - No Wow (2005)
-          2nd album of 4. Latest, Blood Pressures, was out in 2011.
-          Detroit rock duo. Dark, hard rock.
-          The female half, Allison Mosshart is in the Dead Weather with Jack White.
-          Played SXSW



The Ghost Wolves - Gonna Live - In Ya Neck (2011)
-          Big Black Keys/Kills/White Stripes vibes here.
-          Austin band



The Black Belles - Lies - What Can I Do? Single (2011)
-          Dark/noir style blues rock from the all-female Third Man Records' group.



The King Khan Experience - I Got Love - The King Khan Experience (2011)
-          Latest solo album. Been a long time coming.
-          Long time collaborator with Marc Sultan (AKA the BBQ Show)
-          One of my all-time favorite artists. The Supreme Genius of King Khan and His Shrines is one of the greatest albums.

-          4th album
-          The leader of Deer Tick, John McCauley, has been working on the Middle Brother collaborative project recently and making some brilliant music there.
-          This is their first new recording in about 2 years as their 3rd album was recorded during the sessions for their 2nd.
-          The is the first single from the forthcoming album and has an easier feel that is more reminiscent of Middle Brother than the older Deer Tick stuff.



Bombadil - One Whole Year - All That the Rain Promises (2011)
-          3rd album.
-          North Carolina Band.
-          Catchy folk pop/rock



JEFF the Brotherhood - Whatever I Want - Whatever I Want Single (2011)
-          4th album, We Are Champions, was out in earlier this year.
-          Jake & Jamin Orrall
-          Kraut punk rock. Harder, eclectic rock.
-          Played SXSW and they lead singer & guitarist came out into the crowd, right in front of me and played a solo from his knees for me!

  

Nick Cave – Death Is Not the End – Murder Ballads (1996)
-          9th album
-          One of Cave’s best and masterfully dark albums
-          One of the best received critically albums.
-          All about crimes of passion… Stagger Lee is a great un-airable song.
-          Cave's latest release was with side project Grinderman.

Deer Tick - Main Street - Divine Providence (2011)
-          Forthcoming 4th album

-          2nd full length.
-          Swedish folk outfit.
-          They also have one EP out and a DayTrotter session well worth your time.



Brown Bird - Bilgewater - Salt For Salt (2011)
-          2nd of two EPs. Both out in 2011.
-          Layered, darker folk rock that is like a slightly less amped up version of the Builders and the Butchers.



Dan Mangan – About As Helpful As You Can Be Without Being Any Help At All – Oh Fortune (2011)
-          Third Album.
-          RIYL: David Dondero & Wooden Wand.
-          This one feels like a waltz.



Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin - Fame (David Bowie) – Castle Face Records Group Flex Sampler (2011)
-          Bowie cover from these fuzzy lovin' San Franciscans.
-          Ty Segall has almost single-handedly revitalized the fuzzy garage rock genre.



Turf War – Cheers To the Years – Years of Living Dangerously (2011)
-          Debut album
-          Produced by Ian St. Pe’ of the Black Lips.
-          Atlanta band.



Hanni El Khatib - Come Alive - When the Guns Come Out (2011)
-          If you love the old Black Keys you will get into this guy for sure!
-          Hard, dirty garage blue rock.



Mikal Cronin - Is It Alright - Mikal Cronin (2011)
-          Solo debut.
-          Album is produced by fellow west coaster, Ty Segall.
-          Also in a surf-punk band called the Moonhearts.



Benjy Ferree – Fear – Come Back To The Five And Dime Bobby Dee, Bobby Dee (2008)
-          2nd album
-          Concept album inspired by Bobby Driscoll, the boy who played Peter Pan for Disney in the 40’s & 50’s
-          After hearing a couple old time pop songs (‘Fear’) I wasn’t expecting to hear a track like this one… sounds like it could be found on a Raconteur’s record.
-          He’s getting comparisons to Jack White, Freddie Mercury and Marc Bolan… pretty accurate and pretty good company!



Matt Duncan - Meanstreak – Beacon EP (2010)
-          Debut 6 song EP
-          Retro pop that makes me think a lot of Benjy Ferree.



The Strange Boys - Doueh - Live Music (2011)
-          3rd full length.
-          debut full length was The Strange Boys & Girls Club out in 2009)
-          in the same vein as the Black Lips… lo-fi mash-up of 60’s/70’s rock, old r&b and punk.



Air Review - Low Wishes - America's Son EP (2011)
-          Debut EP
-          Dallas folk rock band
-          Cool Sufjan Stevens and Elliot Smith vibes on this track.



PAPA - Let's Make You Pregnant - A Good Woman Is Hard To Find EP (2011)
-          Led by the drummer for the band Girls.
-          Upbeat, a touch beachy and sun-drenched pop and a perfect fit for the end of summer.
-          There is something triumphant in their tracks that really draws me in.



Future Islands - Balance - On the Water
-          3rd full length.
-          This song has popped up in so many places, but I could never decide if I really liked it or not… I think I do.
-          Upbeat beach pop.
-          Baltimore band.



Carousels - Here To Me - Carousels EP (2011)
-          They have a sound that is part Jesus and Mary Chain, Pulp and a little
-          A must Google.
-          There is pretty much nothing out there about this band, however there is another band out there with the same name… different style.



Psychic Ills - Mind Daze – Hazed Dream (2011)
-          3rd full length, but numerous other EP and single releases.
-          Trippy garage psych rock.
