-       Sloppy garage, REM-leaning act starting to carve out a name for themselves in a similar way as FIDLAR.
-       Tied for best act of CMJ 2012 with the Grizzled Mighty

-       Bringing more of the older, more aggressive style White Stripes' fans were used to.
-       Hi solo debut, 2012's Blunberbuss was a much slower, folkier album.

-          Latest single from their forthcoming 3rd full length.
-          Kurt Vile’s former outfit is still providing long time Vile fans sounds more in the vein of his older, soaring, drone- heavy work.

The Casket Girls : Day to Day : True Love Kills the Fairy Tale (2014)
-          2nd full length. Debut was 2013’s Sleepwalking.
-          Gorgeously dark and fuzzy, slow-burning pop.
-          Project captained by Ryan Graveface of Black Moth Super Rainbow, Dreamend and Graveface Records. Features his standard eerie vibes.

-       Also done work Zooey Deschanel in She & Him and with Jim James and Conor Oberst in the Monsters of Folk.

Suckers - Chinese Braille - Candy Salad (2012)
-          2nd full length
-          Eclectic rock that might could be RIYL Wolf Parade or Menomena. (I do)
-          Debut EP and LP each received Best of the U & U honors.
-          SXSW 2012.



Quiet Hooves - Too Hard - Stallin' (2012) & Saddle Up (2012)
-       Double album featuring a rerelease of their 1st album plus their 2nd.
-       Eclectic pop/rock. Reminds me a bit Man Man and Menomena.
-       A bit wacky at times, but not  coming off as tacky or trying to hard.



Ramona Falls - Sqworm - Prophet (2012)
-          2nd album.
-          Led by Brent Knopf, formerly of Menomena.
-          SXSW 2012



Moonface - I'm Not the Phoenix Yet - With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery (2012)
-       2nd album. First with Siinai as backing band
-       First full length was out last year, Organ Music.
-       Debut EP was out last year and was one 20+ minute track.
-       Wolf Parade's and Sunset Rubdown's Spencer Krug's solo project.

-          Formerly Devin Therriault.
-          brash 70's style rock



Leatherbag - Poor Misguided Boy - Patience (2011)
-       Debut EP. 2 Full lengths as well.
-       Austin band
-       2nd band I saw at SXSW 2012 and one that I didn’t know at all going in. Ended up being a favorite.



Diamond Rugs - Out On My Own - Diamond Rugs (2012)
-       Debut release from garage/folk supergroup featuring Deer Tick's John McCaualey and Ian Saint Pe of the Black Lips (that’s the guy who produced the Turf War debut album).
-       An appropriately titled first single from a band who says their name is a play on the phase ‘I’m on drugs.’
-       SXSW 2012



Maps & Atlases – Old Ash - Beware and Be Grateful (2012)
-       1st single from forthcoming full length.
-       Chicago experimental folk outfit.
-       Played SXSW 2011 and playing 2012



Free Energy – Electric Fever - Love Sign (2012)
-       2nd full length
-       Debut full length 'Stuck On Nothing' was a fun, hard not to like 70's pop rock treat.
-       Formerly known as Hockey Night
-       On James Murphy's (of LCD Soundsystem) DFA Records.



Anais Mitchell - Ships - Young Man In America (2012)
-          6th album.
-          folk singer songwriter.
-          Previous album, Hadestown, featured numerous appearances from Justin Vernon.
-          Playing The Bishop in Bloomington April 17th.


Ben Kweller - Gossip - Go Fly a Kite (2012)
-       6th full length.
-       Indie pop/rock singer songwriter that's been making extremely consistent, not overly ground breaking records since 2009.



Mr. Gnome – The Way - Softly Mad (2012)
-          Latest single.
-          3rd album 'Madness In Miniature' was out last here and was recorded in Josh Homme’s studio.
-          2nd album ' Heave Your Skeleton' was really solid as well.
-          Cleveland, OH band



Yellow Ostrich - I Got No Time For You - Strange Land (2012)
-          2nd full length.
-          Debut full length was 'The Mistress' and made the 2011 Best of the U & U.
-          Sounds a bit like the Beatles and the White Stripes and even at times Menomena.

-          17th album and 1st since 2004. Album teaser video
-          One of the most prolific, innovative and talented songwriters ever.
-          First new music since 2006’s triple album release.
-          Also an actor.
-          Give me his first three albums and a desert island.



The Black Angels – Phosphene Dream – Phosphene Dream (2010)
-          3rd album from the ominous psych rockers.
-          Formed in 2004 in Austin, TX
-          Interesting feel to it… similar to some of the Black Keys more eerie songs
-          Debut Self Titled EP was released in 2005. 2nd full length out in 2008

-          sophomore album
-          great song that fits the holiday… eerie feel
-          more accessible follow up to brilliant, but further out there debut
-          Go French Canada!

-          Debut album. Released 2 since.

-          one of the eeriest songs I’ve ever heard
-          latest sounds the most affected by outside/big label influence, but still good



The Kills – Ticket Man - No Wow (2005)
-          2nd album of 4. Latest, Blood Pressures, was out in 2011.
-          Detroit rock duo. Dark, hard rock.
-          The female half, Allison Mosshart is in the Dead Weather with Jack White.
-          Played SXSW



The Ghost Wolves - Gonna Live - In Ya Neck (2011)
-          Big Black Keys/Kills/White Stripes vibes here.
-          Austin band



The Black Belles - Lies - What Can I Do? Single (2011)
-          Dark/noir style blues rock from the all-female Third Man Records' group.



The King Khan Experience - I Got Love - The King Khan Experience (2011)
-          Latest solo album. Been a long time coming.
-          Long time collaborator with Marc Sultan (AKA the BBQ Show)
-          One of my all-time favorite artists. The Supreme Genius of King Khan and His Shrines is one of the greatest albums.



Deer Tick - The Bump - Divine Providence (2011)
-          4th album
-          The leader of Deer Tick, John McCauley, has been working on the Middle Brother collaborative project recently and making some brilliant music there.
-          This is their first new recording in about 2 years as their 3rd album was recorded during the sessions for their 2nd.
-          The is the first single from the forthcoming album and has an easier feel that is more reminiscent of Middle Brother than the older Deer Tick stuff.



Bombadil - One Whole Year - All That the Rain Promises (2011)
-          3rd album.
-          North Carolina Band.
-          Catchy folk pop/rock



JEFF the Brotherhood - Whatever I Want - Whatever I Want Single (2011)
-          4th album, We Are Champions, was out in earlier this year.
-          Jake & Jamin Orrall
-          Kraut punk rock. Harder, eclectic rock.
-          Played SXSW and they lead singer & guitarist came out into the crowd, right in front of me and played a solo from his knees for me!

  

Nick Cave – Death Is Not the End – Murder Ballads (1996)
-          9th album
-          One of Cave’s best and masterfully dark albums
-          One of the best received critically albums.
-          All about crimes of passion… Stagger Lee is a great un-airable song.
-          Cave's latest release was with side project Grinderman.
