-          Debut album 3/5 was out 1997.
-          Led by comedian, artist, author and crazy person Tim Harrington.
-          Art, punk rock that is reminiscent of the Pixies at times.
-          One of the best live bands I've ever seen.



Destroyer : Dream Lover : Poison Season (2015)
-          10th album.
-          Dan Bejar's main project.
-          Also makes up one third of the pop perfectionists the New Pornographers.

Dawes - Little Bit of Everything - Nothing Is Wrong (2011)
-          2nd album out yesterday.
-          By far the best song I’ve heard from them. Reminds me of ‘My Sweet Carolina’ by Ryan Adams.
-          Led by Taylor Goldsmith, who is also 1/3 of the folk supergroup Middle Brother.












Deer Tick – Summertime Blues (Eddie Cochran Cover)
-          3rd album
-          Rambling folk duet. A bit of Dylan coming through
















Black Lips – Go Out and Get It – Arabia Mountain (2011)
-          6th album.
-          One of the most fun bands to listen to and see live.
-          Sloppy garage rock.
















Mister Heavenly - Pineapple Girl - Out of Love (2011)
-          Debut single from forthcoming full length debut.
-          the latest in what's becoming a long line of big indie names collaborating.
-          Features Nick Thorburn (Islands/The Unicorns), Ryan Kattner (Man Man), and Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse).
















Country Mice - Morning Sun - Twister (2011)
-          Debut album
-          Folk rock outfit that formerly went by We Are Country Mice.
















White Denim – If You’re Changing - D (2011)
-          5th album. They are continually changing their sound and evolving.
-          They did an Impromptu album of demos last summer: Download for free right now!
-          Played SXSW
-          Workout Holiday was their debut and still their best.
-          Playing the Rock Lobster in Indy Wednesday, June 29th.

-          6th album
-          Probably the most notable Louisville band going.
-          Led by and known for Jim James on lead vocals.
-          Playing the Lawn at White River this summer.
















Superhumanoids – Mikelah - Mikelah 7" (2011)
-          Latest 7" single.
-          Debut full length was out last year.
-          Features male and female lead vocals that make you think a little of the New Pornographers, just a little heavier music
















Iron & Wine – Freedom Hangs Like Heaven - Woman King EP (2005)
-          This EP was the last release before for his latest two LPs ‘Kiss Each Other Clean’ & 'The Sheppard's Dog' which were significantly more filled out than anything he’s done previously.
-          Sam Beam: Singer/Songwriter from Florida
-          Started recording in 2002
















Horse Feathers – Working Poor – House With No Home (2008)
-          2nd album of 3.
-          If you like this band check out Rosemont Family Reunion
-          Blown away by live performance… a unique experience only rivaled by Iron & Wine
-          The songs are played so softly the crowd is almost silent focused on the music.
-          See them this Sunday at Radio Radio in Indianapolis.
















Smog - Chosen One - Julius Ceasar (1993)
-          Debut album from Bill Callahan's first band.
-          They were heavily embedded in the lo-fi movement in the early 90's

















Mars Classroom - New Theory - New Theory of Everything (2011)
-          Debut effort from yet another Robert Pollard side project.
-          Feels a lot like Guided By Voices, his recently reunited main act.












WATERS - For the One - Out In the Light (2011)
-          Forthcoming debut album. Out 9/20.
-          New project led by Van Pierszalowski (previously of Port O'Brien).
















Le Corbeau - Black Belvedere - Moth On The Headlight (2011)
-          A collaboration between members of Sereena Maneesh and
A Place
to Bury Strangers.
-          Dark noir rock.

-          One of the most prominent Indie-to-major label bands.




 









The Hold Steady – Certain Songs – Almost Killed Me (2004)
-          debut album
-          Brilliant lyricist, though his voice can turn some people away
-          Playing the Bluebird Thursday, Nov. 13th with the Drive-By Truckers
-          Writes dead on anthems… catchy, energetic and meaningful lyrics







 






Black Francis – Discotheque 36 – Bluefinger (2007)
-          Pixies’ leader, Frank Black
-          kind of an alter-ego
-          real name is Charles Thompson
-          this is an excellent catchy song









 




LCD Soundsystem - New York I Love You - Sound of Silver (2005)
LCD Soundsystem – All My Friends – Sound of Silver (2005)
-          2nd album of 3 from the James Murphy led outfit.
-          Band known for successfully tapping into many different genres: dance, rock, indie, dicso.
-          They are responsible for what many critics consider some of the greatest songs of the past decade: All My Friends and Someone Great.
-          Recently playing their last shows in NYC. I caught the first one! Was amazing!

-          sings some tracks in Spanish and that culture is infused to some of the instrumentation as well
-          there are a handful of tracks that bring back feelings of his previous work, some with a whole new feel and some a mix of both.
-          Makes for a very diverse album

-          compilation of demos and unreleased recordings
-          He is the Lead Singer for Weezer








 





Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy – The World's Greatest (R. Kelly cover) - Ask Forgiveness EP (2007)
-          8-song EP with 7 covers from William Oldham
-          Yes, this is an R. Kelly song.









 




A. A. Bondy – Vice Rag – American Hearts (2008)
-          solo debut from former Verbena band member
-          tons of praise for this effort so far
-          Daytrotter session is excellent.









 




Guided By Voices - I Am a Tree - Mag Earwhig! (1997)
-          The prolific Robert Pollard's primary outfit.
-          This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I play it about once a year on here.
-          Reunited last year and are playing the Pitchfor Music Fest this year.







 







Stephen Malkmus – Baby C’mon – Face The Truth (2005)
-          3rd solo album
-          One of the looser fun songs he’s released, easy to sing along with anthem
-          Former leader of the band Pavement
-          Put out one of the best albums of 2008… Real Emotional Trash






 







The Arcade Fire – My Body is a Cage – Neon Bible (2007)
-          2nd full length release
-          Funeral was their debut full length album
-          Debut self titled EP came out in 2003
-          Incredible show… they were so passionate and into what they were doing
-          Look up online a cover the guns of brixton… it’s excellent







 









Josh Ritter – Blame it on the Tetons – Girl in the War (EP) (2006)
-          One of the singles released off his album, ‘The Animal Years’
-          Modest Mouse cover









 




Modest Mouse – Never Ending Math Equation – Building Nothing Out Of Something (1999)
-          Compilation of various singles and b-sides.
-          They’ve released about an album’s worth of music this year but have just spread it out… a lot of it is pretty damn good too!









 




Cave Singers – Called – Invitation Songs (2007)
-          debut album. Just released their third.
-          interesting brand of folk
-          similarly to the arcade fire song, it’s like a chant
-          out of Seattle
-          on matador records… Shearwater and Stephen Malkmus









 




Iron and Wine – The Devil Never Sleeps – Sheppard’s Dog (2007)
-          This album and his latest ‘Kiss Each Other Clean’ have been significantly more filled out than anything he’s done previously.
-          waits/Swordfishtrombones influence.
-          Sam Beam: Singer/Songwriter from Florida
-          Started recording in 2002
-          His more upbeat songs come off with a little funk and jangle… folky funk










 



Bishop Allen – Busted Heart – Charm School (2003)
-          This is a very solid indie pop/rock band.
-          this song is reminiscent of Modest Mouse, who also got their start in the early 90’s alternative/grunge rock scene














Eagles of Death Metal – English Girl – Peace Love Death Metal (2004)
-          debut album
Eagles of Death Metal – I Like to Move in the Night – Death By Sexy (2006)
-          second album of two
-          this is a side project from Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and friend Jesse Hughes
-          Homme goes by the name Carlo Von Sexron here though
-          Throwback raunchy garage rock
-          Just wrapped up a tour with Queens of the Stone Age
