The U & U Show 315!

Pond : Giant Tortoise : Hobo Rocket (2013)
-          5th full length album. First of 2 announced 2013 albums.
-          Features members of Tame Impala.
-          By far the greatest lead singer I saw at SXSW. Young, tiny, wild aussie.

The National : Demons : Trouble Will Find Me (2013)
-          6th album
-          One of two lead singles out now.
-          Has the vibe of their last full length album, 2010's High Violet.

Scout Niblett : Calcination : The Calcination of Scout Niblett (2010)
-          5th album
-          6th is on its way. It's Up To Emma.
-          Debut release was a split single with Songs:Ohia.
-          Provided one of the highlights on the Jason Molina Tribute Compilation.
-          Slow building, strong, dark, snarling rock.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs : Sacrilege : Mosquito (2013)
-          4th album.
-          Debut full length, Fever To Tell, is one of the greatest albums in recent history.
-          Karen O is the lead singer and has one of the best voices in any genre.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. : Hiding : Patterns EP (2013)
-          Full length debut.
-          Their 2010 debut EP garnered them a lot of good reviews.
-          Playing the White Rabbit Cabaret Friday, June 17th

Lightning Dust : Diamond : Fantasy (2013)
-          3rd album
-          This is the best song they've recorded.
-          Jagjaguwar Label.
-          Haunting synthy folk.

Night Beds : My Kind of Woman (Mac DeMarco Cover) : Aquarium Drunkard Session (2013)
-          Live cover for the blog Aquarium Drunkard.
-          Debut album, Country Sleep, is one of the most gorgeous vocal performances of 2013.
-          Extremely talented vocalist.
-          Sounds like a cross between Ryan Adams and the Cave Singers.

The Thermals : Our Love Survives : Desperate Ground (2013)
-          First single from 6th album.
-          High energy indie punk rock band.

Dead Confederate : Vacations : In the Marrow (2013)
-          3rd full length. 3 EPs as well.
-          Heavy alt-country band from Georgia led by T Hardy Morris
-          He teamed up with The Black Lips' Ian St. Pe and Deer Ticks John McCauley in Diamond Rugs.

Turf War : The Great Escape : The Great Escape EP (2013)
-          2nd EP of the year.
-          Also just released an EP of covers, Turf War Plays the Hits.
-          Favorite band of SXSW 2012

Thee Oh Sees : Strawberries 1 + 2 : Floating Coffin (2013)
-          12th-ish album.
-          Their last album, Putrifiers II, was one of 2012’s best.
-          One of the bands leading the west coast’s psych rock movement.
-          This track is a little less manic than most of their material.
-          SXSW 2013

The Shouting Matches : Avery Hill : Grownass Man (2013)
-          Debut album from the loooong rumoured, bluesy classic rock side project from Justin Vernon.
-          Unfortunately the leaked live videos that surfaced 4+ years ago seemed to possess significantly more fire and energy.

Fletcher C. Johnson : Eventually : It Rained Something Wicked (2010)
-          Debut album.
-          2nd album, Salutations, made a significant number of best of '12 lists despite its small release.
-          A truly fun, loose and uplifting highlight performance at SXSW.

Grape St. : Charmed Life : A Date With You (2012)
-          Debut full length
-          Off shoot of the band Harlem. As is Lace Curtains!
-          Name your price for this album on their BandCamp.

Radiation City : Zombies : Animals In the Median (2013)
-          2nd full length.
-          Debut full length was out in 2011. The Hands That Take You.
-          Latest release is 2012's Cool Nightmare EP
-          They have a beachy vibe that makes me think of Tennis.

Iron & Wine : Joy : Ghost on Ghost (2013)
-          5th album. Also 4 incredible early EPs
-          This marks his 3rd album since his departure from a stripped back acoustic approach for a fuller, warmer full band sound.
-          Project led by Sam Beam
-          His solo acoustic set at SXSW 2013 was one of the more powerful sets of the festival.

Lord Huron : Ends Of The Earth : Lonesome Dreams (2012)
-          Debut full length from a band that has made a significant mark already with only 2 EPs
-          Rich, easy going tropical feel to this track.
-          Very reminiscent of Fleet Foxes.

Kurt Vile : Goldtone : Wakin On A Pretty Daze (2013)
-          5th album.
-          Former guitarist for the War On Drugs.
-          The opening track on this album, 'Wakin on a Pretty Day,' might be the year's best so far.
-          He said he was inspired by the album Tusk when making this album.
