-          Layered folk that is reminiscent of Iron & Wine and Horse Feathers.
-          Adeptly weaves together male and female lead vocals.



Alabama Shakes - Hold On - Alabama Shakes EP (2011)
-          Debut EP
-          Garnered a lot of hype at this year's SXSW



Parlovr - Chucka Chucka - Dine Alone Sampler Summer (2011)
-          Forthcoming 2nd album
-          Debut out in 2008… re-released this year.
-          Wolf Parade/Suckers anthem feel.
-          I didn’t even have to wait for the vocals to cast my vote of approval as this track had me smiling within seconds of hitting play.



Bear and Moose - Bear and Moose - Bear and Moose (2011)
-          Debut double album.
-          Guitar and drums duo.
-          RIYL: The Heartless Bastards



Tom Waits – Pay Me – Bad As Me (2011)
-          17th album and 1st since 2004. Album teaser video
-          One of the most prolific, innovative and talented songwriters ever.
-          First new music since 2006’s triple album release.
-          Also an actor.
-          Give me his first three albums and a desert island.



J Mascis - I've Been Thinking - Circle Single (2011)
-          B-side from the 7” single for the song Circle from their latest solo album, Several Shades of Why.
-          Dinosaur Jr. leader.
-          Eddie Vedder-esque vocals.
-          Played SXSW and was a major surprise.
-          This is from the DayTrotter Session he just recorded.



Withered Hand - It's A Wonderful Lie – It’s A Wonderful Lie Single (2009)
-          Debut full length was Good News, but two previously released EPs also.
-          Neil Young-heavy sound.
-          Played SXSW



Tennis - Origins - Young and Old (2012)
-          2nd Album
-          Debut LP was out this past January.  Debut EP was out in July of 2010.
-          Pop husband and wife duo.
-          Bought a sailboat and sailed around the east coast for eight months and now are sharing their experiences in song form for you.
-          Played SXSW



Said the Whale - New BrightonNew Brighton EP (2011)
-          9th EP released to warm the waters for their 3rd full length due out in early 2012.
-          2nd album, was Islands Disappear.
-          About as good of an example of Indie pop as you can find.
-          A friend turned me on to this band via the video for this song. Watch it!
-          Played SXSW.



13ghosts - Wicked Drink – Garland of Bottle Flies (2011)
-          6th album, 3 EPs as well.
-          Raucous barroom-style rock.
-          RIYL: Lucero, Ike Reilly.



Handsome Furs – Handsome Furs Hate This Place - Plague Park (2007)
-          Debut album
-          3rd album, Sound Kapital was out this year.
-          Wolf Parade's Dan Boeckner and his wife.
-          I was late to the party here, but glad I didn’t miss it!



Imaad Wasif - Go Insane (The Doors) - Beat LA: A Benefit for Haiti (2011)
-          Compilation of covers in support of Haiti.
-          Imaad Wasif was formerly a guitarist for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and has made some great alt-rock music since.



Crystal Stilts - Dark Eyes - Radiant Door EP (2011)
-          Latest of 3 EPs. Also 2 full lengths.
-          This shows the catchier side of this usually heavy-psych rock band.



Neil Young – Home On the Range – Where the Buffalo Roam OST (1980)
-          Theme from one of the early, less highly regarded films based on Hunter S. Thompson’s work.
-          The soundtrack featured a lot of great music anchored by the Neil Young score.



Wounded Lion - Roman Values - IVXLCDM (2011)
-          2nd album.
-          Garage band from LA.



The Antlers – VCR (The xx cover) - (Together) EP (2011)
-          Latest EP.
-          4th album, Burst Apart, was out in early 2011
-          Big pop sound… remind me of The Arcade Fire’s acoustic tracks
-          If you like this at all, just go get their 3rd album 'Hospice' it's still the best to date.
