Released four as Tyrannosaurus Rex. - Prior to this album he was more focused on folk music, this was where he deftly transitioned into classic/glam rock. - Electric Warrior would follow this album and be his best. Amazon : HypeMachine Field Music – The Rest Is Noise – Field Music (Measure) (2010) - 3rd album - The strings are what this song is all about and make it more than worthy of your ears. Official Site : MySpace : HypeMachine Frightened Rabbit - Foot Shooter - The Winter of Mixed Drinks (2010) - 4th album, Midnight Organ Fight is their best to date. - This band had a lot of hype from the start, and that combined with a ‘far from album best’ first single pushed me away at first, but the deeper I dug into this album the more I was blown away - Scottish accent stands out, but there seems to be something more than that to his vocals and make them truly unique. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine We Were Promised Jetpacks – A Far Cry – The Last Place You’ll Look (2010) - Forthcoming 2nd album - Scottish band with a very similar sound to Frightened Rabbit on the mellower tracks but seem a bit more aggressive when they amp up their sound. - Playing Radio Radio this Sunday. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Brazos - Tell - Phosphorescent Blues (2009) - 2nd full length. - Coldplay fans might like this. - This track has a building warm feel to it. - Broke out with this at the 2008 SXSW Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine The Rest - With Every Heartbeat - The Cried Wolf Book/EP (2010) - Book/EP warming the waters for their forthcoming full length - Warm powerful indie rock anthem. - Love the intensity at the end of this track. - Very hard to Google. Official Site : MySpace : HypeMachine Titus Andronicus – A More Perfect Union – The Monitor (2010) - Civil War-themed 2nd album - Out march 9th - Named after the Shakespeare play - This is a enjoyably raucous anthem. Myspace : Amazon : HypeMachine Middle Class Rut - Busy Bein Bored - 25 Years EP (2009) - Debut EP - Playing a handful of SXSW shows - This song’s been out for a couple years now as the band continues to try to make a name for itself. (MediaFire) The Roadside Graves - Jenny Jump - If Shacking Up Is All You Want To Do (2010) - 3rd album out Feb 23rd - Very well received album. - Remind me a good deal of Lucero and their bar room style of rock/southern rock. Download it from their official site now! - Initially sounds like it’s going to be a bit of a rocker, but mellows into slower tune you might find on an AC Newman or Stephen Malkmus record. Myspace : Amazon : HypeMachine Black Keys – Girls on my Mind – Rubber Factory - 3rd album - one of the eeriest songs I’ve ever heard - latest sounds the most affected by outside/big label influence, but still good Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Midlake - The Horn - The Courage of Others (2010) - 3rd album - Almost sounds like Serj of System of a Down when he’s singing and not freaking out. - Big sweeping classic rock sound. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Phantogram - When I'm Small - Eyelid Movies (2010) - Debut full length - You will likely hear much more about this band as the year progresses. - They are being considered one of the many bands to watch for at the SXSW musicfest. MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Zeus - You Gotta Teller - Say Us (2010) - Debut full length album - Four SXSW shows lined up. - Toronto band - This album really reminds me of the first, way before those damn treadmills, OK Go album. MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine The Rest - The Close Western - The Cried Wolf Book/EP (2010) - Book/EP warming the waters for their forthcoming full length - Warm powerful indie rock anthem. - Love the intensity at the end of this track. - Very hard to Google. Official Site : MySpace : HypeMachine Shearwater – Corridors - Golden Archipelago (2010) - 6th album. Out Feb. 23rd - they pack so much intensity in their songs. No one sounds quite like them. - Austin band with ties to Okkervil River - Almost a voice you’d expect at the opera - Palo Santo is a great album by them. - This is the most frantic track I’ve ever heard by them. - Almost sounds like the band Wilderness here which would normally sound like a ridiculous comparison. Hooray for the evolution and open mindedness of musicians. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Wolf People - Cotton Strands - Tidings (2010) - Debut release here in the states. - Trippy feel of 70's hard blues rock - The record player crackle though out is a perfect fit. - All-time favorite band to google. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Cymbals Eat Guitars – Ballad of Nothing - Wind Phoenix Single (2010) - Single out March 1st - This is an Elliot Smith cover. - They have a lot of Pavement/Malkmus - Their debut, Why There Are Mountains. has a wide range of tempos and transitions that is refreshing to hear. MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Joanna Newsom - Good Intentions Paving Company - Have One On Me (2010) - 3rd album. 3 disc. - She broke out in a big way with her 2006 2nd album Ys. - This is the most mainstream of a progression I've heard from her.
