Matt & Kim - Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare – Grand (2009) - 2nd album, debut out in 2006, Self-titled. - just added to the Pitchfork Music Fest, which is one of the more relevant festivals you’ll find - keyboard & drums that sound like much more than that… sum of the parts - Big indie rock sounds without a doubt… the sound of the vocals scream it. - This track thunders along and build very enjoyably - Played SXSW Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine The Dodos - Going Under - No Color (2011) - 3rd album - debut album appeared on almost every indie music Best of ’08 lists - their talent for creating impressive compositions is clearly evident. - This entire album is heavily focused on upbeat chugging drums. - Only $5.99 on amazon! Yellow Ostrich - Whale - The Mistress (2011)

- Debut full length

- Sounds a bit like the Beatles and the White Stripes and even at times Menomena.

- latest release

- There aren't many out there but this is another band that puts off a sound very reminiscent of Yeasayer and Bravestation.

- The prolific Robert Pollard's primary outfit

- Forthcoming solo album.

- Dinosaur Jr. leader.

- Eddie Vedder-esque vocals.

- Played SXSW and was kind of a pleasant surprise.

Withered Hand - Religious Songs - Good News (2011)

- Debut full length, but has two previously released EPs

- Neil Young-heavy sound.

- His best song and unfortunately very profane. The FCC would not appreciate it if I didn’t edit… or maybe they would because it would result in them getting more cash for no good reason!

- Favorite new (to me) band! - Played SXSW

- Forthcoming debut from this folk super group.

- Due out in March

- Features members of Deer Tick, Delta Spirit and Dawes.

LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean - This Is Happening (2010)

- 3rd Album

- James Murphy led outfit

- Band known for successfully tapping into many different genres: dance, rock, indie, disco

- They are responsible for what many critics consider some of the greatest songs of the past decade: All My Friends, New York I Love You and Someone Great

Family Portrait - Other Side - Family Portrait (2011)

- Lead single off forthcoming full length.

- Crazy homemade video to another track of theirs with a wide assortment of flamethrowers.

- Makes me think of the Who a bit here.

- Solo project from the vocalist of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

- Sounds very similar to the Edward Sharpe music.

- Dream punk is how I’ve read them described… spacier, fuzzier punk music.

Thistled Spring was their latest LP and 3rd overall. - Stripped back sound featuring all strings - Painfully sad at times - unmatched in it’s raw emotion… like the earliest Iron & Wine albums - This music makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Tennis - Take Me Somewhere - Baltimore (2011) - Debut LP. Debut EP was out July 27th - Pop husband and wife duo. - Bought a sailboat and sailed around the east coast for eight months and now are sharing their experiences in song form for you. MySpace : HypeMachine Kurt Vile – Earlly Dawnin - In My Time EP (2010) - Forthcoming EP. - dreamy pop rock with vocals that bring up thoughts of Devendra Banhart - like Iron & Wine, cut his teeth with lo-fi recordings… this shows up more on ‘God is Saying…’ - Side project from The War on Drugs' lead guitarist. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Syd Barrett – Octopus – An Introduction to Syd Barrett (2010) - Born in 1946 in Cambridge, England. Died this past July. - Founder of Pink Floyd, but a lot of people might not recognize his contributions. - Responsible for their first album (The Piper at the Gates of Dawn), but is only on a couple tracks on the second. - He became more and more erratic and disruptive to the band and drove them to the point where they had to move on without him. - This is probably his best known song from his solo career and shows some similarities to some Beatles. - Released two solo albums but still worked with Floyd… even with his replacement David Gilmour. - Gilmour Produced this album. Official Site : Amazon : HypeMachine David Dondero – Just a Baby In Your Momma's Eyes - # Zero with a Bullet (2010) - 7th studio album. - Reminds me a bit of Neil Young and Mike Doughty! - This track is a bit more acoustic than the album’s title track. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine The Decemberists – Down By The River – The King Is Dead (2011) - Brand new forthcoming album!!! - Colin Meloy, leader, said he had initially envisioned this album as a musical. - distinct folk band that at times brings in some Jethro Tull sounds - Headlined the NPR music stage at SXSW. - It will be tough to top their last album The Hazards of Love. Belle & Sebastian, Bishop Allen, Etc. - Weird as can be, but makes some of the catchiest songs. - Vocals remind me of The National’s lead singer Matt Berninger AND Julian Casablancas (formerly of the Strokes). MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Esben and the Witch - Marching Song - 33 (2010) - Debut EP - Dark ominous sound. - Pretty creepy video for this song. MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Mr. Gnome – Vampires – Heave Your Skeleton (2009) - 2nd album - Cleveland, OH band - 3rd album is on its way and was recorded in Josh Homme’s studio.
