The U & U's 116 Best Songs of 2016 | Set 1 of 5: 116-100

Let the year in review posts commence!

Guidelines: After one pass through all of this year's shows I had a playlist of almost 300 songs. Then started paring it down. I limited artists to max of 2 total songs from the same album on the list. Covers are included. Lead singles to be included on 2017 albums were not included. I tried to exclude songs that were previously released on an older album. It's an arbitrary list. I've already spent too much time explaining... let alone compiling. Enjoy!

116 : Nick Waterhouse : Katchi (feat. Leon Bridges) : Never Twice (2016)

115 : Matthew E. White : Cool Out (Featuring Natalie Prass) (2016)

U & U Show 407 | Thee Oh Sees Remain Undefeated

Thee Oh Sees : Turned Out Light : Mutilator Defeated At Last (2015)
-          Forthcoming LP.
-          Prolific San Fran garage psych from John Dwyer.
-          Their last 2 LPs, Floating Coffin and Drop, were two of the best of the past 2 years.
-          One of the best SXSW 2015 bands.

Mac DeMarco : The Way You'd Love Her : Another One (2015)
-          Forthcoming 'mini album'
-          His 3rd album, Salad Days, was one of 2014's best.
-          Lazy, wobbly, in and out of tune indie pop.

The U & U Show 402 | So Many Big Names w/ New LPs

Tame Impala : 'Cause I'm A Man : Currents (2015)
-          First single from forthcoming 3rd LP.
-          By far the most dance-y track to date. Sounds more like Daft Punk than their previous music.
-          Innerspeaker & Lonerism have been two of the best Beatles-leaning vintage psych rock albums of the past few years.
-          One of the leading forces of the Perth, AUS psych rock scene.

Sufjan Stevens : The Only Thing : Carrie and Lowell (2015)
-          I believe it's officially his forthcoming 6th album, but he's also but out numerous other compilations and releases from side projects.
-          One of the most talented musicians that I've been able to enjoy every step of the way.
-          This first teaser sounds like a hope-elevating return to his early stripped back folk days.
