Black Keys – When the Lights Go Out – Rubber Factory (2004) - 3rd album - one of the eeriest songs I’ve ever heard - latest sounds the most affected by outside/big label influence, but still good Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Swans - Jim - My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky (2010) - 12th album. First since 1996! - Influential post/punk band back with a slightly better production quality, but still an edge. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon The Black Angels – Young Men Dead – Passover (2006) - First full length album - Formed in 2004 in Austin, TX - Interesting feel to it… similar to some of the Black Keys more eerie songs - Debut Self Titled EP was released in 2005. 2nd full length out in 2008 Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Arcade Fire – Neon Bible – Neon Bible (2007) - sophomore album - great song that fits the holiday… eerie feel - more accessible follow up to brilliant, but further out there debut - Go French Canada! Ward + Bon Iver + Tom Waits’ ‘What’s He Building In There?’ - Eerily cool spooky tracks… slogan on Myspace is ‘Creep on creepin’ on.’ - Toronto duo Label Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Karen Elson - The Ghost Who Walks - The Ghost Who Walks (2010) - Debut from Jack White's wife. Produced by Jack White - On Jack White's Third Man Records. - Hooray for more Jack White! Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Dead Man’s Bones –My Body's a Zombie For You – Dead Man’s Bones (2009) - First single from actors’, Ryan Gosling and Zack Shields, band featuring Silverlake Conservatory children’s choir. - Out October 6th - On ANTI one of the most eclectic labels going. - Best Halloween album ever? Yes. - Arcade Fire and Polyphonic Spree fans… dig in! MySpace : HypeMachine Tom Waits – Murder In the Red Barn - Bone Machine (1992) - scary, intense, primitive sounding album - one of my top songs for this time of year. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – Cannibal’s Hymn - Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus (2004) - 13th studio album - Most recent was 2008’s ‘Dig, Lazarus! Dig!!!’ and his two Grinderman albums. - Like a few artists out there… lou reed and tom waits, he has a huge cult following and a unique/distinct sound Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Mr. Gnome – Slow Side – Heave Your Skeleton (2009) - 2nd album - Cleveland, OH band - 3rd album is on its way and was recorded in Josh Homme’s studio. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Black Sabbath – Hand of Doom – Paranoid (1970) - Their most successful album. Features Sporting Event favorites, Iron Man and Paranoid. - Though my history is a bit limited, this is a great track that I think was overshadowed by the other big hits of the record. - I’ve caught three of their live reunion shows and had a great time but never heard it. - I love the transitions between soft and loud sections, it really builds. Official Site : Myspace : Buy on Amazon : Stream on HypeMachine : DayTrotter Session Teenage Prayers – No Sex – Everyone Thinks You’re The Best (2008) - 2nd album - features a duo of ‘Kyle’s’ taking care of the rhythm section. - Reminds me a little of Jon Spencer and the Blues Explosion. - Just did a great DayTrotter Session. Official Site : Myspace : Buy on Amazon : Stream on HypeMachine : DayTrotter Session The Decemberists – A Bower Scene & Won’t Want For Love (Margaret in the Taiga) – The Hazards of Love (2009) - Brand new album - Colin Meloy, leader, said he had initially envisioned this album as a musical. - distinct folk band that at times brings in some Jethro Tull sounds - Headlined the NPR music stage at SXSW - This track (and album) has some of the biggest, fattest riffs that they’ve ever put out. Official Site : Myspace : Buy on Amazon : Stream on HypeMachine Black Sabbath – Wicked World – Black Sabbath (1970) - One of the greatest debut albums ever conceived - Ozzy’s first band and where he was at his best Official Site : Buy on Amazon : Stream on HypeMachine Radio Moscow – No Jane – Brain Cycles (2009) - 2nd album, debut out last year - big psychedelic blues rock - Black Sabbath… Black Keys - In the middle of an extensive and far reaching European tour Myspace : Buy on Amazon : Stream on HypeMachine Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Runaway – It’s Blitz (2009) - 3rd full length from this stylistically unique garage rock band - This wasn’t supposed to be released this soon but after it leaked online they felt the it was best to release the album early. - Here they step out further from the norm and present an album that’s almost disco/dance. - This track would pair well with TV on the Radio and Coldplay - May have the coolest album art in some time. Official Site : Myspace : Buy on Amazon : Stream on HypeMachine : DayTrotter Session The Theater Fire – Swashbuckler Blues– Matter and Light (2008) - debut album and another I kick myself for missing - this track screams The National… the best tracks from the National; ‘Start a War’ ‘Wasp Nest’ and ‘Fake Empire’ - There’s something that makes me really enjoy this album’s cover art. Set out on a really long tour on which his musical partner and wife left him… as well as his band. Big beard and long flowing hair Official Site : Myspace : Buy on Amazon : Stream on HypeMachine Lucero – Tonight Ain’t Gonna Be Good – That Much Further West (2003) - 3rd album of 6… they also have a Live CD/DVD out - band led by Ben Nichols o has a classic gritty raspy bar rock singing voice - name means ‘bright star’ in Spanish. - playing Radio Radio with Titus Andronicus for $12!
