The Unknown & Unheard Show 189!

Stream & Download The U & U Show 189 Right Here, Right Now! (Download) Grinderman - Heathen Child - Girnderman 2 (2010) - Forthcoming 2nd album from the harder rockin' side project from Nick Cave and some Bad Seeds. - Nick Cave is someone who grows on me more and more with every listen. - I hope the entire album sounds as sinister, aggressive and cool as this track. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Cloud Cult - Today We Give Ourselves to the Fire - Light Chasers (2010) - 7th full length. - Led by environmentalist Craig Minowa - A band that’s been interesting and influential indie pop since 1995. - I reference this band a lot when talking about newer bands taking on this style because these guys are so good at it! - This is bigger rock sound than I've ever heard from them by far. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Black Mountain – The Hair Song - Wilderness Heart (2010) - 3rd album from this group of Canadians - First single. - Amazing cover art… it immediately became my computer's wallpaper. - Jagjaguwar Band… Bloomington’s star loaded label. Official Site : Myspace : Amazon : HypeMachine Menomena – BOTE - Mines (2010) - 4th album - Lackthereof and Ramona Falls are side projects that have had releases since the last Menomena album - Ultra-creative song writing. No one comes close to the sound they make. Layers and layers of instruments and vocals. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine J Roddy Walston and the Business – Full Growing Man - J Roddy Walston and the Business (2010) - Debut album - Baltimore band - Rock and roll feel to some of the tracks - Makes me think of Dr. Dog here. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Les Savy Fav – Let's Get Out of Here – Root to Ruin (2010) - 5th album out September 14th - New York angular alt-rock band led by one of the most insane people on the planet, Tim Harrington - Possibly the best live band I’ve ever seen… primarily thanks to Harrington Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Wolf Parade – Cave-o-sapien – Expo 86 (2010) - 3rd album - Their 2nd was a huge 2008 hit. The same can be said about their debut in 2005 - Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug each take their cracks at song writing and lead singing and each are coming of hugely successful releases from their side projects. - Boeckner (Handsome Furs) and Krug (Sunset Rubdown) Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Arcade Fire – Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – The Suburbs (2010) - 3rd album - This yet another epic album from one of the leaders of independent music. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Bravestation – Colour Us With Youth – 2010 EP (2010) - Debut EP - It’s about time Yeasayer fans have another band addressing their needs. MySpace : HypeMachine Sambassadeur - I Can Try – European (2010) - 3rd album - Really like the use of strings in this track - Fairly standard indie pop sound. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine The Walkmen - Stranded - Lisbon (2010) - Forthcoming 6th album. Out September 14th - They use a lot of vintage instruments. - This track has a fantastic horn section that makes me think of Okkervil River. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin – Banned (By the Man) – Let It Sway (2010) - 3rd full length - Indie rock band from Missouri - This album was produced by Death Cab’s Chris Walla (also produced albums for the Thermals, the Decemberists, and the Long Winters) Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine

The Unknown & Unheard Show 154!

Stream & Download The U & U Show 154 Right Here, Right Now! (MediaFire) The Features - The Idea of Growing Old - Exhibit A (2004) - debut full length - 2nd album out last year. Released two other EP's in there - Kings of Leon fans can definitely find something here. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine The Avett Brothers - Incomplete and Insecure - I and Love and You (2009) - forthcoming album - follow-up to their break out ‘Emotionalism’ - this is the exact type of track that makes me love this band. - Easy Americana Official Site : Myspace : Amazon : HypeMachine Family of the Year - Let's Go Down - Where's the Sun (2009) - Debut EP - full length debut, Songbook, is just out last week, November 17th - Download for free Here! Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Sambassadeur - Days - Days (2009) - Forthcoming 4th album - Really like the use of strings in this track - Fairly standard indie pop sound. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Mumford & Sons – Winter Winds - Sigh No More (2009) - my favorite new band I’ve found this go around at SXSW - such a big, building sound for an acoustic song - nice use of banjo. Really compliments and adds to the song. MySpace : HypeMachine Jason Boesel - Hand of God - Hustler's Son (2009) - Jim James with a slightly deeper voice. Todd Snider a little even. - Drummer for Rilo Kiley and even Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst for a bit - His time with Oberst really shows on this track’s lush folk arrangement. Official Site : MySpace : HypeMachine Bobby Bare, Jr. - I Need You - The American Bread EP (2009) - EP of Bread covers produced and backed vocally by David Vandervelde - Son of traditional country legend Bobby Bare - I’ve enjoyed his more raucous music, but this is still really well done. - For sure the highest level of production I’ve heard on any of his recordings. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Man/Miracle - Pushing and Shoving - Pushing and Shoving (2008) - Debut album - Big My Morning Jacket sound - Also remind me a bit of the Suckers Official Site : MySpace : HypeMachine James Husband - A Grave in the Gravel - A Parallax I (2009) - solo debut from member of Of Montreal - starts off sounding like it will be a Psychedelic rock track then mellows out significantly. MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Lucero –Darken My Door - 1372 Overton Park (2009) - New Lucero! - Ben Nichol's led band's first album on a major label - The level of polish has jumped significantly and it doesn't seem to fit with them - They have always seemed like the quintessential bar band, they hoarser and rougher their sound the better. - With that said, the polish can't disrupt the band's ability to write quality music. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Part Company - Out of Egypt - dirty garage rock! Hooray! - There is no arguing that this genre has exploded this year. - Whether you like it or not, this is another quality act true to the genre - Big Rolling Stones energy here. MySpace : HypeMachine Twin Tigers - Red Fox Run - Curious Faces/Violet Future EP (2008) - Debut EP - Certainly a significant amount of psych here. - Somewhat reminiscent of Oasis without the hype and polish (that’s a good trait!) MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Suckers – Save Your Love For Me – Save Your Love For Me (2009) - Latest single - big pounding, distorted anthem with a couple huge builds - loads of hype around this short 4 song release… deservedly so! - Love this Song! MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Windmill - Start a War - Cover of the National - London singer/songwriter Matthew Thomas Dylan - I can see his voice being off putting for some people, but it’s so fragile sounding and just the right amount of quirkiness and nerdiness that I think it works. - RIYL: Cloud Cult and Polyphonic Spree Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine Civil Twilight - Letters from the Sky - Civil Twilight (2008) - 2nd album - from Cape Town, South Africa originally - borders on over produced and too dependent on U2’s sound. - My Fence Sitter of the Week. - A big clue for me when it comes to a legit band and one trying too hard to make up for what they lack is over production, fancy packaging and a glossy site. Despite liking this track, this band suffers from all of those things. Official Site : MySpace : Amazon : HypeMachine
